Flashbacks or New?

Dateline: Thursday (but work was heck, so I didn't get a chance to post).

While up in NY, I was thrilled to see the tunics all over stores (not on the street yet, it was too darn hot!). My Balenciaga obsession, slouchy cashmere sweaters at Henri Bendel, all in lovely deep, rich colors. I haven't figured out yet whether I'll be able to wear it (sometimes slouchy is just that, and turns into frumpy), but it's gorgeous on the rack.

And then I got this in my inbox today (Bloomingdale's). The idea of pairing big relaxed with skinny structured appeals to me...but somehow, all I see in this picture is middle school (ok, I'm dating myself) Firenze sweaters and leggings. Never mind the ankle boots. Reminds me of that girl I hated. (We all had one, right?) Anyone else see the same?

Completely agree. I could see those sweater proportions on a really amazingly tailored white shirt with a high-waisted pencil skirt, but the pants with the ankle boots (and especially the color scheme) looks like it's straight out of the 80's, as opposed to just giving the era a wink and a nod and some modern flourishes.

I really don't want to hate Bloomingdales, really, I don't, but their catalogs just don't do it for me and their stores are always a mess whenever I go.

Babsie D - so glad you agree. And yes, on the Bloomies. They're utilitarian, but ugh! the catalogs are stuck in another era. There's a shopping event tomorrow I might check out - will report back if the store is as poorly maintained...

Here is the shirt I'm thinking of. Now I just need to find the "not $950" version...
