And Then There Was Sight

It's all about finally doing things, this week, apparently.

Babsie D & I were lamenting too-old glasses & holey sweaters not too long ago. You see, I haven't gotten new glasses in at least 2 years. Maybe 3. Contacts, yes. Glasses, no. (We won't go into my annoyance over vision plans that say you can have one or the other, forcing you to spend your hard-earned flexible spending account money on exhorbitant lens costs.) I had an eye exam a couple of years ago to upgrade my contacts - I ran out (amazing. go figure. I procrastinated). And I walked right through the door in the wall to the LensCrafters to get new glasses, too.

But apparently one can't just replace lenses in the type of glasses I had at the time - those rimless ones? - the ones reminiscent of Ben Franklin? Loved them, but there was a whole hullaballoo about them not having the right size and not special-ordering, blah, blah, blah...

So for two years (at least) I've been mostly contacts, only wearing my glasses at night. Who cares if I can barely see the TV at the foot of my bed?

Finally, finally, finally (that's a familiar refrain, isn't it?), H and I trapse into the Hour Eyes (new vision plan) next door to the Chipotle (terrible temptation). Quick eye exam. Pick out frames. Little bit of a hassle, as I'm looking for "something funky." Harder than you'd think.

My theory is that, since I do wear contacts most of the time, my glasses should jump out a little - why not have a little fun with them? My inspiration is my Dutch-Austrian host mother, who wore these fantastic multi-color tortise shell frames. Naturally, can't find anything even remotely like that here. I gravitate towards the old-skool cat eyes...terrible on me. Just horrendous. Then I go for the totally ueber-schoolmarmish black Buddy Holly-esque. Even worse on this fair-haired, never even remotely tan vixen.

Finally, I find these, in soft brown tortise shell. With rhinestones. What could be more fun & glam than a little bit of sparkle with your schoolmarm? Naturally, since I had to be at work at least an hour before the crack of dawn and my eyes aren't even open yet, I just had to wear them (eye-friendly, of course).

If I do say so myself, I look faaaaaaaaaaaaahbulous.
