DC's Fashion Week Challenge

So we're not New York.

Our streets aren't lined with tents and models this week.*

Amen and Hallelujah.

We have fashion, too. Take this week, for example.

Kicked off with unsungdesigners.com's birthday party. I missed it, since I was sleeping off the tireds from our Cuba Libre party (mini-Cubans, DIY mojito bar, and mosquito-netting-enhanced bedroom lounge make for a long and delightful evening).

Tomorrow, well, yes...tomorrow. The First Ever District Sample Sale. I'll miss it. Yup, you read that right. I'm keeping my priorities straight and playing the Good Grad Student. But I expect each and every one of you to go, buy, and report.

Then Wednesday morning...ok, so it's nationwide, but we have Filene's, too. If you miss the Sample Sale like I will, you can catch up on some new season stuff at their Early Opening. (Darn that blogger - picture-posting issues again.) Their Fall Fashion Event (announced via their weekly emails): Early opening - 8am in all stores (DC: Friendship Heights or Metro Center). Nothing different than their regular merchandise, as far as I can tell, but hey! an opportunity to shop at 8 in the morning is welcome. (I'm seeing a commercial...I shop more before 9 am than most people do all day...)

Since I'm going to be a Good Little Girl this week, and miss events, I'm issuing myself a DC Fashion Week Challenge: Take a fashion risk this week. I'm going to try something completely new. I'll get inspiration from the NY shows, and ransack my closet to make it work.

Anyone else out there willing to take my challenge with me?

*Live vicariously through the style.com reports & The Sartorialist's shots. Of particular note: style.com's My Lookbook feature. Point & click to save your favorite shots, then go back & reference them later, say, before you hit the Sample Sale or Filene's.

I'm going all out tomorrow--so bummed you'll miss it!

Kermit the frog green Oscar dress (purchased at an OdL sample sale about 10 years ago)--I just had it totally reworked and cut short--with black stockings and patent platforms.

My feet will kill within an hour, but I'm digging my whole mod-ness!

And I'm wearing knee length 4 inch heeled suede boots today with trouser shorts.

I felt like people were looking at me, when I was out for my Starbucks fix.

Looking at my FABULOUSness.

I'm missing it tonight too. We'll just have to drown ourselves in plain old non-Roberto Cavalli vodka.

Babsie D - you will post pics, right? We all want to see OdL reworked!

Carrie - sounds like this calls for a party of our own. Props on the trouser shorts...can you believe I still haven't indulged?

I second that picture request!

Get thee out and try them! I initially scoffed at them, but I tried them on and am amazed at how good they look with all kinds of shoes.

You don't have to ask me twice to shop and drink martinis, even if it's not a big ole soiree.

Pictures to come the moment they're within my paws. Event last night was fabulous--wish you both had been there!

Looking forward to hearing it about it, babsie!
