DC Fashionistas - Meetup for Style

Last week, Joannah Nwokeabia, a member of the DC Fashionistas meetup.com group, emailed me about their "Backstage Pass!" event. I was a big slacker, and didn't spread the news in time, so missed telling you about the December 9th fun.

I'm hoping some of the group members who attended can report in and tell us how the event went down. It certainly sounded like a fashionable time - live fashion shoot, makeup artists - our own DC version of Project Runway + America's Next Top model. And from Pandahead's pics of the night, the attendees lived up to the group's name.

According to the group's site, they're looking to bring together the style and fashion community of DC - to shatter that Drab DC Image. From the member lists and message boards, it's a supportive group working together to help launch DC designers, models, and photographers. Model looking for work? Designer putting together your first show? Turn to the group for advice and friends willing to pitch in. But not only the professionals are part of this - those not (yet) trying to make money in fashion are welcome, too.

So sorry, Joannah, for not posting this earlier - but hopefully folks can still link up with DC Fashionistas and connect to others in the DC fashion world. And chime in and tell us about the event!

Hi I'm a member of the DC Fashionistas, Bonnie-Love of B.Loved Designs. We had a great time at our event on Saturday. We probably had close to 300 guests. It was a great turnout. There was so much style in the atmosphere it was crazy. People shopped, mingled, ate and drank. It was totally worth all the hard work that was put in to it.

Thanks so much for your support DC Celine. We fashionistas must stick together if we are to transform the nations capital into a better styled society! The DC Fashionistas event was a blast. I must say, bonnie-love you outdid yourself with the corset belts. I did not know I could erase so many inches from my waist with the snap of a closure--definitely a hot item for the night. Tiffany's fashionista stationary was also on my list of hot pics! I picked up some cards for the holidays that were not your traditional "ho,ho,ho." I can't wait for the next event...

I am also a member of DC Fashionistas, and this was my first event. It was a true success! Very project runway, very sociable, very chic! Thanks to DC Fashionistas and its founder Abigail de Casanova, my passion for fashion design and the business side of it is growing. This first event is really helping me to focus on how I can become a part of the fashion world, especially here in DC.
