"Want to look at some fashion shows?"
"Yes, Mama."
We looked through the Calvin Klein Collection show. She settled down, telling me which she liked and which she didn't. I asked her what she liked or didn't like about a look, and her answers were straightforward, as you'd expect a 6 year old's view of fashion might be.
After the show, she was calm enough to go back to bed. Blessedly, she slept through the rest of the night.
Calvin Klein Collection
Her Favorite: I like the all white.

Her 2nd favorite (and one of my own favorites, though I didn't tell her that. I swear.)
Look 6
She didn't like this one. No particular reason.

Then, today, we had some time to kill while her little brother was in his music class, and she'd forgotten her library book. More fashion shows? She was agreeable. This time, we talked a little bit more about what things she saw the same throughout a collection and why they design summer clothes as we're going into fall. Here's her view of a classic minimalist line and, well, not (I had to show her sparkle, didn't I?)
Helmut Lang
Her favorite: "Because I can wear it in the pool." "I," she said. She saw herself wearing the looks. Which is more than lots of us can imagine, with all of our foibles.

The first one that caught her eye as we browsed the collection: "It's black, Mama," she said, looking up at me with a hint of mischievousness. "I can wear it in the winter. It's not a very summery dress." Also, she said, "The really red lips."
That's my girl.

And this one she liked "Because it has a book."

Badgley Mischka
"I do not like that hat, Mama. You can't see her eyes. I like the dress, but not the hat."
Look 2
Her favorite. When this one came on the screen, she stopped, leaned in, and said with all appropriately awed ooziness: "The coooooloooooor."
Look 21
Her second favorite. She is a 6 year old girl, after all.

Love the Bean's Badgley Mischka picks for sure. Some of my favorite looks as well.
She's got great taste and I like her thinking!
