If only H weren't away and I could get out for a few one evening to hit the sale racks (must have Bean coverage), this Vivienne Westwood Anglomania dress (ok, so the whole line is amazing - love, love, love the structured necklines) could hang in my closet...or this 3.1 by phillip lim frock...or...

Why: Because 40% off means the designs creep into affordable. Still regret that top I bought there on sale but it was really too small so I eventually (I think - have to check) gave it away practically unworn - now that it would fit, of course.

Excessive Spending by Way of Absolutely Adorable

My email was just chock full of gems this morning.

I must have signed up for Barney's email at some point - don't remember doing it, but good for me.

They sent an invite to the launch for Phillip Lim's new children's line - juice and cookies provided - at the New York flagship.

Normally, I'm one to dress The Bean in old skool children's clothes - smocked dresses, hand knit sweaters, overalls, and sailor suits (MotorCityGirl and I regularly lament the fact that it's increasingly difficult to find children's clothes that aren't "mini mes" of adult clothing.) However, other than the ridiculous idea of spending $115 on a skirt for a little girl who will wear it once then grow out of it, I'm absolutley smitten with Kid by Phillip Lim. Lim's signature architectural details translate remarkably well to minature (maybe it has to do with the fact that models designers fit are children themselves). My favorites (which means I'd not only dress The Bean in them, but buy them for myself, if they came in "XXXXXXL" for Mommy): a trench skirt and lace up dress.

The kiddie Vans, however? Let's leave them back in the decade from whence they came.

Shop in Style: Phillip Lim 3.1 at NM

I promise more than events soon - fighting sickness while raising baby after long trip. So in the meantime, be sure to hit the Phillip Lim 3.1 event at Neiman Marcus locations October 5-7.

They're launching an exclusive capsule collection of his - can't wait to see it - party dresses ('cause I need those at the moment - riiiiiiiiiiight) being a focus. Bring on the flirty dresses!

While I can't claim to be a regular customer (the cuts of clothes on their racks tend towards Italian-style, which don't always work for this Germanic-boned Scotch-Irish lass), I'm a huge fan of Muléh's fashion collections. For years now, they've been home to some of the off-the-rack envelope pushers in terms of silouhette, structure, and fabric, like 3.1 by Philip Lim, Daryl K, Rozae Nichols, and Nicole Farhi (we fell in love when I ran across her new(ish) store in NYC last summer).

Drool over their amazing furniture collection while you're at it. Who wouldn't kill for a lounge chair named "Dragnet?" It'll go perfectly in my post-modern mansion full of an ecclectic mix of mid-century (I know, I know, so "done," but I love it) and curbside antiques.*

We are in the market for a new bed, after all...maybe I'll squeeze it in between reading articles for the long-overdue thesis proposal...

*Some of the best pieces in my family's homes are things someone else left at the curb for the nice garbageman. Curbside antiques are well worth the stop - trust your instincts!
