Style Inspiration: Rainy Day Blues
I love a rainy night.
And I love a rainy day.
I happen to be wallowing in a funk at the moment, so turned to the Interwebs to wallow further. I firmly believe that a good wallow, savoring the depth of whatever form The Blues take for you, is the best way to cope with The Blues. For me,
I need armor. I need the structure of a Comme des Garcons design or the slouchy menswear-inspired trouser from Jenny Kaye.
I need to lose myself in a gaze, get lost far away in Billie's voice.
I need to acknowledge that The Bean is turning 5 this week, but remember that she'll always be my babygirl.
I need color saturation like only the 1960s can give.
I need a good storm - and a good book in which I can escape. It doesn't hurt when it was not only a childhood favorite, but was also "born" in my hometown. Returning home takes lots of forms.
I need romanticism, like the misleading glamor of an exiled princess.
I need ethereal mist - losing myself again.
Maybe some of this hits home for you. If it does, jump on over to my The Blues board on Pinterest.

Style Dilemma: Decisions, Decisions
My internal fragrance pre-sale debate (Chanel no. 19, post on that later) reminded me of the pre-sale that escaped me - my designer Chucks - or so I thought. I'd debated about a pair, dilly-dallied too long, and missed the boat. I was sad.
So this morning, thinking I could get a jump on whatever the next sneaker design collaboration is, I went to the Saks site.
Lo and behold, all 3 of them were there - I suppose back in stock after the initial rush. As I don't particularly care whether I'm the first to have anything (if I like it, I like it), I'm back in debate: Missoni or Comme des Garcons.
I'm leaning towards the adorably cheeky Comme des Garcons version. As beautiful as the Missonis are, September 13th is coming soon, after all.
Also part of the debate? The fact that I just bought my Oscars. I just spent boucoup bucks on shoes. I might have the Best Husband Ever, but even the ever-stylishly-supportive H balked when I mentioned the beautiful $200 lace-up Cole Hahn boots I spotted Friday. "You're not buying any expensive shoes for a while," is an exact quote.
I might have to let these ride. Sort of a "if you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was."

Style Inspiration: Design on a (Relative) Dime
Thank, you Daily Candy, for helping me with my climb out of the Doldrums.I think I might have to buy a new pair of Chucks. Saks pre-order, here I come.
However, while H is absolutely supportive of the things I need to do on the climb (when The Bean and I got home yesterday, he asked "Didn't you buy any shoes?"), I'm not sure he'd be ok with spending 200 bucks on non-workout sneakers for the Missoni version (I have a natural tendency to all things Missoni; something about that glorious, colorful stripey-ness).
On the other hand, I might be able to swing $105 for the Comme des Garcons (I'll spin a tale of them being commemorative of our Manhattan honeymoon and the afternoon we stumbled on the CdG Chelsea outpost). Or at least the delighfully graphic $80 Marimekko option.I'm dreaming up HipMama Weekend Playground Outfits right now.
